Spa Inline Chlorinator Installation

To install anything in with the spa equipment may void the warranty on the spa and will take some handy-man skills to do it yourself. The ColorChlor and TechniChlor are very easy to install and in no way need any connection with the existing spa equipment. The ChlorMaker inline chlorine generator does require integration and is very easy if your spa already has a 24 hour continuously running pump with ¾ inch tubing.  If you install the ChlorMaker into the main spa piping it needs to be after the pump and heater and needs to be wired to only be on when the circulation pump is on.

Installing With Existing 24 Hour Pump

  • Turn the hot tub or spa off. Turn off the main circuit breaker to the spa. The 24 hour pump must be off.
  • You don't need to drain the spa if you don't mind a little water spilling. But it is always a good idea to start with fresh water when switching to an electronic saltwater spa chlorine generator.
  • Locate and mount the ChlorMaker cell where the ¾ inch tube will reach the barb fittings when the tube is cut.
  • Cut the ¾ inch tube and connect each end of the tube to the ChlorMaker cell. This is where water will spill if you didn't drain your spa. It could be a couple gallons depending on how fast you are.
  • Fill the spa and add salt, 1.5 pounds per 100 gallons of spa water volume.
  • Mount the power supply and plug into an existing GFI protected 110 VAC outlet. You can also cut the end of the power cord to if you want to use 220 VAC inside the spa pack.
  • Cut a 1.5" by 3.25" rectangular hole in the spa skirt where the ChlorMaker control panel will be located and fasten in place. Connect the power supply to the control panel and connect the control panel to the ChlorMaker cell.
  • Turn the power on and when the salt has dissolved the ChlorMaker will start making chlorine.

    Other Type of Installations
  • The ChlorMaker has 2 ¾ inch barb fittings that can be removed is you want to install a different way. The fittings are ¾ inch NPT.
It isn't possible to have an easier to install spa chlorine generator than the ColorChlor and TechniChlor. But, if you don't want the drape over the side cable and are willing to dig into the spa equipment then the ChlorMaker inline chlorinator fits the bill. Once installed all you see is the small ChlorMaker control panel that can be flush mounted to the spa skirt. The control panel has a knob for adjusting the chlorine or bromine production and two indicator lights to let you know when it is making chlorine or if you need to check the cell.
The ChlorMaker operates on a 6 hour cycle and will automatically make chlorine for part of each 6 hour period. It will make chlorine 4 times a day and you will not need to manually add chlorine unless you are shocking the spa water after periods of heavy use. The ChlorMaker will definitely reduce the maintenance requirements of your spa and significantly reduce the amount of chemicals you may be currently using.
